Frequently asked questions.
General Questions:
Q: Do you have onsite parking?
A: Yes! We have free onsite parking in the rear of our building.
Q: How do I know if counselling is right for me?
A: Counselling can help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or looking for support in navigating life changes. Many clients begin therapy when stress, anxiety, or relationship struggles start to affect their daily lives. Others choose to start therapy as a preventative measure — to build coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and care for their mental health before challenges feel too heavy. Therapy doesn’t have to wait until things are at their hardest; it can also be a proactive step toward growth and resilience.
Q: Do you offer both in-person and online therapy?
A: Yes. We offer in-person sessions in Chatham-Kent as well as secure online counselling across Ontario.
Q: How long is a counselling session?
A: Most sessions are 60 minutes long, though 45-minute sessions can be arranged upon request. Each session is tailored to your needs—some clients prefer traditional talk therapy, while others find value in a more somatic approach, where emotions are explored through the body or through creative mediums such as painting, journaling, or other forms of expression.
Q: How often should I attend counselling?
A: Frequency depends on your needs. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, while others prefer bi-weekly or monthly check-ins. Your therapist will help you find the right pace.
Q: Are counselling sessions covered by insurance?
A: Our practice is able to direct bill most insurance plans. If you're unsure, feel free to give our office a call!
Q: How do I book a session?
A: You can request an appointment through our website or email our Client Experience Coordinator at admin@myrandaashleycounselling.com for support.
Specific Areas of Counselling:
Q: What is perinatal counselling?
A: Perinatal counselling supports individuals through pregnancy, postpartum, fertility challenges, and pregnancy loss. It’s a safe space to explore emotions, adjust to changes, and build coping strategies.
Q: How can counselling help with grief?
A: Grief counselling provides space to process loss, understand your emotions, and find ways to move forward while honouring your loved one.
Q: Do you provide support for pregnancy or infant loss?
A: Yes. We offer compassionate counselling for miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss, providing a safe place to share your experience and find healing. Many of our therapists have specialized perinatal loss training.
Q: What issues can couples counselling help with?
A: Couples counselling can support communication, conflict resolution, intimacy, parenting challenges, trust rebuilding, and navigating major life transitions.
Q: Do we have to be in crisis to start couples therapy?
A: Not at all. Many couples come to therapy to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, or prepare for big changes like parenthood.
Q: Will the therapist take sides?
A: Our role isn’t to choose sides, but to ensure that both partners feel equally supported throughout the process. At times, your therapist may point out patterns or behaviors that are getting in the way of connection. This often includes inviting each partner to reflect and grow individually so the relationship can become stronger, more open, and more resilient.
